Laura H. Cabanilla was born in Starke, Florida and moved frequently as a child, having lived all over the United States as well as in Mexico and Canada. She obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from Brigham Young University in 1986, and later graduated from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1994. She was a law clerk at the 4th District Court for Judge Ray Harding, Sr., before becoming a prosecutor with the Orem City Attorney’s Office. In 1996, Ms. Cabanilla joined the Utah County Attorney’s office as a Deputy County Attorney where she prosecuted felony level crimes including several high profile cases. In 2000, Ms. Cabanilla joined the firm which would later be known as EsplinWeight. Her practice is centered around family law and criminal defense. Laura Cabanilla is a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army Reserves and has served in a variety of responsibilities including company command and battalion and brigade staff positions, she has been a member of the U.S. Army Reserves since 1981. She currently is an instructor with the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Her husband, Dave Cabanilla, is a local land developer and an MD11 pilot with Federal Express. They are the parents of four children: triplets aged 18, and a 16 year old.
